Geoff Moseley
Geoff began his journey of language learning as a student of French, Spanish, and Italian at a public high school in New York’s Hudson Valley and continued on to Greek and Latin in college and graduate school. As both a language student and a musician, he grew to appreciate the unsurpassed value of small class sizes and one-on-one instruction and of pairing rigor with playfulness and an unlimited commitment to supporting students in their growth. Among the language teachers he learned the most from are the late Richard Tremblay of the University of Western Ontario French immersion program in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec and the late Fr. Reginald Foster of the Aestiva Romae Latinitas intensive program in Rome.
Geoff believes that the wide world of Latin, from the earliest days of Rome to the present day, offers something to spark every student’s passion. In meeting students where their interests lie, he has read everything from early Roman inscriptions to 16th-century works about China and the New World with students at the high school (Deerfield Academy) and college (Latin-Greek Institute of New York, Vanderbilt University) levels as well as with private tutees of all ages.
He has also taught undergraduate and graduate Humanities courses at the Ohio State University and the University of the South-Sewanee and, as an Assessment Specialist at Educational Testing Service, worked full-time to develop several Advanced Placement (AP) exams, led Latin Development Committee meetings, and staffed the 2023 AP Latin Reading in Tampa.
Geoff has returned to the (virtual) classroom in order to take his experience in both teaching and standardized testing to a wide variety of individual students. He hopes to help them share his passion for Latin and Greek and to carry on the legacy of his teachers by combining high expectations with maximum support, a combination that can be best realized in one-on-one and very small group instruction.
